What is the Life in the Spirit Seminar?
The Life in the Spirit Seminar (LSS) takes the basic message of Christianity and proclaims it anew, so that those who hear it, can make an authentic and deeper commitment to the Lord in a way which will allow them to receive a fuller experience of the work of the Spirit in their lives.
The LSS aims to:
- establish or re-establish a deeper personal relationship with Jesus Christ
- yield to the action of the Holy Spirit in their lives so that they can begin to experience His working in and through them
- be joined to Christ more fully by becoming a part of a community of Catholics with whom they can share their Christian life.
- begin to make use of effective means of growth in their relationship with Christ.
Through the LSS, the participants can be guided into receiving the Gospel more meaningfully in a manner that will make them respond to Christ’s call with greater fervor, acquiring a more vigorous commitment to serve as His disciples in the Church.
What to expect?
The BLD LSS begins with the LSS Candidates’ Orientation Session and ends with the LSS Graduates’ Grand Reunion. The BLD’s LSS is made up of three (3) phases:
- The preparatory activities - This includes the LSS Candidates’ Orientation Session and the LSS Shepherding Sessions.
- The activities during the seminar proper - This includes the LSS Seminar proper July 24-26, the high point of which is the Baptism in the Spirit.
- The post-seminar activities - This includes the LSS Graduates’ Grand Reunion.
Each participant will be assigned a shepherd — a spiritual big brother or sister in the faith. Shepherding is a time of one-on-one connection where you’ll meet several weeks before the seminar weekend to:
- Open your heart to God’s love
- Understand the teachings more deeply
- Discern what the Holy Spirit is doing in your life
- Prepare spiritually for the outpouring weekend
This commitment ensures you don’t walk this journey alone.
The Seminar proper presents several topics through sessions consisting of personal testimonies, talks and presentations of the Spiritual Director, singing and worshiping, Eucharistic Celebrations, and fellowship.
Participants are required to abide by the discipline of the seminar such as Sacrament of Reconciliation (General Confession), reception of the Eucharist, dialogues and reflections on the topics among others.
Who can attend?
- Candidates must be baptized and confirmed in the Catholic Church. Those baptized in the following churches: Episcopal, Anglican, and Lutheran may be accepted provided it is proven that their Baptism is recognized as a valid sacrament of the Catholic Church. Otherwise, the reception of the Sacraments of Baptism and Confirmation are required.
- If you’re attending as a couple, you must be sacramentally married in the Catholic Church.
- Candidates can attend even if you have attended a previous LSS either in BLD or other communities/parishes and desires to have an “in-filling” of the Holy Spirit.
